Métis Week – November 14 to 20

Mark your calendars - Métis Week is happening Nov. 14 to 20, 2021! Each year, people across Canada pay tribute to Louis Riel, who sought to defend Métis rights and identity as the Northwest Territories came progressively under the Canadian sphere of influence, by holding a commemorative ceremony on November 16, the date of his execution. Rupertsland Institute has announced online workshops, contests, and fun activities geared for K-12 educators. Please encourage everyone to register for upcoming no-cost PD, resources, and free events listed Rupertsland Institute Métis Week, to ensure that Métis Week is celebrated authentically and with purpose.

Each year on November 16, people across Canada pay tribute to the Right Honorable Louis Riel by holding a commemorative ceremony on the date of his execution. In Alberta, the week surrounding November 16 is known as Métis Week.

Rupertsland Centre for Teaching and Learning is excited to provide resources, events, and information to support everyone in their Métis education journey prior to, during, and after Métis Week. In the links below, educators can access brand-new resources and a list of Métis Community and Métis Education events being hosted during Métis Week.
