On behalf of ECCS central office and the Board we would like to congratulate Leanne MacDonald on being appointed as the new vice-principal for the upcoming 2022-23 school year. We are looking forward to working with Leanne and her new leadership team in the years to come.

Leanne was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Leanne and her husband Scott have two children, a daughter Mhairi who is 13 years old, and a son Ryan who is 9 years old.

Leanne graduated from Cape Breton University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Biology. She then moved on and completed a Bachelor of Education degree in Secondary Education from St. Francis Xavier University in 2003. She holds a Master of Education degree in Education (Administration and Leadership) from St. Francis Xavier University which she obtained in 2012.

Her teaching career started in 2003 when she was the grade 1 teacher of Elizabeth Settlement School near Cold Lake, Alberta. The next year she began teaching Grade 7/8 Math and Science and she was Principal for one year. In 2014, Leanne began teaching with Lakeland Catholic at Assumption Junior/Senior High School as a Classroom Support Teacher. In 2017, Leanne became the Vice Principal of Assumption and in 2021 was appointed to Principal.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her family following her daughter's hockey team, and watching the Boston Bruins hit the ice. "I am very excited to be starting this new chapter of my career. I look forward to serving the community of Wainwright and Blessed Sacrament. I feel fortunate to be able to continue my career as a Catholic educator and look forward to the connections I can build within the community and its surrounding areas.”
