Solemn Recognition of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

Dear Parents and Guardians of ECCS:
We are providing this communication as an update regarding the Government of Canada's decision to mark Monday, September 19, as a day of solemn recognition of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. This day is a one-time national holiday meant for us to pay our respects to the life and service of the Queen. Accordingly, in communications with our sister board, BTPS, we have decided that ECCS will be closed on Monday, September 19 and classes will fully resume on Tuesday, September 20.
We also encourage families to take part in honouring this day by either participating in an outdoor ceremony at the Alberta legislature at 10:00 a.m. on September 19, the day of her funeral in London, or you can join the ceremony through a live-streamed broadcast for students and families who are not able to attend in-person. Additional details on the ceremony are available https://www.alberta.ca/queen-elizabeth-memorial-services.aspx. This is a historical time as many of us have not lived through a monarchy change. The Queen's obituary is here, and there is also an online book of condolences that the public can sign.
