SOH Principal Announcement

Vermilion  - School Of Hope New Principal Announcement

SOH Principal

On behalf of the ECCS central office and the Board, we congratulate Scott MacDonald on being appointed as the new principal for the upcoming 2022-23 school year. We are looking forward to working with Scott and his new leadership team in the years to come.  Scott was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Scott moved to Alberta in 2004 to begin his teaching career. Scott and his wife Leanne made Alberta their home and have two children, a daughter Mhairi who is 13 and a son Ryan who is 9.

Scott graduated from Cape Breton University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in English and Political Science. Next, he went to St. Francis Xavier University, where he completed his Bachelor of Education degree in Secondary Education in 2002. Scott later that year moved to Cold Lake, Alberta, to begin his teaching career as a Jr/Sr High school teacher. Scott attained his Masters in Education (Administration and Leadership) in 2012.

Scott began his teaching career mainly teaching Jr High English, Social and Religion but later taught high school computer classes. Scott was a crucial teacher in an Alberta Education Initiative involving mobile computer integration into the regular classroom. This involvement led to his role as an Information Communication Technology (ICT) support teacher. In this role, he helped guide teachers on how to meaningfully integrate technology into the classroom to help meet the diverse needs of learners. During this time, Scott was recognized by Apple (Apple Distinguished Educator), ISTE, and CAST for his innovative use of technology to improve teaching and student learning. After enjoying his time in this role for six years, Scott moved into an administration position where he has been a Vice Principal for the past seven years. Scott is a committed life-long learner and a huge advocate for making education accessible to all through technology and engaging instructional strategies.

Scott's passions run deep. He is an avid coach for his daughter's sports teams, mainly as her goalie coach, but he has been right by her side when she played AA baseball. In addition, Scott loves to ski with Ryan, and both are each other's, reading buddies. Scott is excited for this new chapter in his life and cannot wait to serve the communities for the School of Hope. When this opportunity for Scott arose, he knew, "For our life is a matter of faith, not of sight" (2 Corinthians 5.7), and this was the calling he was seeking.
