Kehewin Native Dancers

East Central Alberta Catholic School Division is excited to collaborate with the Kehewin Native Dancer Theatre Group (https://www.kehewinnativedancetheatre.com/). The Kehewin Native Dance Theatre group was founded in 1991 by Melvin and Rosa John. The group provides workshops, interactive performances, and classroom visits. The Kehewin Native Dance Theatre group tours Storytelling and Dance Theatre and has participated in shows nationally and internationally for audiences of all ages. The group has toured throughout the world, performing in Switzerland, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, France, Mexico, Ecuador, the U.S., Canada, and Australia. Every summer the group provides theatre and dance training for Native youth during the summer training program in the Kehewin studios located on the Kehewin First Nation.

Kehewin has developed its own training process, which we have named NAH (this means ‘here’ or ’take this’ in several Native languages). This process is community oriented and culturally based. The group has also developed a community workshop manual that is now used throughout Canada.  All ECCS performances are scheduled for 1 pm.

  • May 29 Blessed Sacrament School & Blessed Sacrament Outreach
  •  June 1 Theresetta School
  •  June 5 Christ King School
  •  June 6 St. Thomas Aquinas
  •  June 9 St. Jerome’s
  •  School of Hope will have a recording of the performance at BSS.
