ECCS K-6 Curriculum Pilot Update Response

After careful consideration, East Central Catholic School Division has decided not to pilot the new draft K-6 curriculum during the 2021-2022 school year. However, any administrator or teacher who wants to review the draft curriculum and provide feedback to Alberta Education through the appropriate channels will be supported to do so.

The Division will continue to focus on implementing the new Assurance Framework and working with stakeholders to target key elements and strategies that support students with diverse needs, literacy, numeracy, and health and wellness for students and staff.

ECCS would like to acknowledge that our students, staff, and parent community are experiencing a challenging year due to the pandemic. There is great reluctance to add to their current workload by asking them to support a new draft K-6 curriculum.

The ECCS board would like to thank everyone who provided feedback. The Division is looking forward to engaging everyone through the assurance surveys. The survey feedback will guide the development of strategies that align with key elements in the various domains outlined by Alberta Education.

The Division will continue to encourage stakeholders to provide constructive feedback on the new draft curriculum through the Alberta Government online survey.
