2021-22 Return To School Plan

To support their overall well-being, ECS to Grade 12 students will return to classrooms on January 10 with measures to continue learning safely:
At-home rapid tests and medical grade masks will be delivered to schools in phases. Shipments will start the week of January 3 and all schools will have their initial shipments by January 14.

Beginning January 11, students in grades 4 to 9 and their parents can access free online tutoring through the e-Tutoring Hub to catch up on important skills and learning. The online tutoring services will be expanded over time based on feedback from school authorities, parents and students.
Important health measures already in place will continue to protect students in classrooms.
We will continue to work with school authorities on shifts to at home learning if needed.

Health Canada has approved Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11. Yesterday, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health announced that Albertans can book appointments beginning at 8 a.m. today. You can watch the news conference here.

This is exciting news—as vaccines are highly effective and proven to protect Albertans and communities from COVID-19. The Canadian Pediatric Society is recommending that all eligible children get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Appointments for children aged 5 to 11 can be booked through the Alberta Vaccine Booking system, or by calling Health Link at 811. Appointments will be available primarily at Alberta Health Services clinics around the province as of November 26. Vaccines will not be available in schools at this time.

Parent or guardian consent is required for children to get their vaccine, and it can be provided with either in-person at the vaccine appointment or by a signed consent form. Parents and guardians are encouraged to seek out reliable and factual information to inform their decisions on vaccines for their children. We appreciate your support in sharing accurate information with families in your school communities.

Latest Updates - January 10th, 2022 Return To School

To support a successful return to school and provide additional planning time, the kindergarten to Grade 12 student winter break will be extended province-wide until January 10, 2022. This extended break will give school authorities time to gather additional data to assess staffing implications and the potential operational impacts of the current COVID-19 situation.
